The History Behind Michigan Week

This past week, leading up to Saturday, October 20th, is what is known by college football fans as Michigan week. It's one of the most highly anticipated weeks in college football because of its intense rivalry. The teams have played each other almost every year from 1898 until now. The rivalry became more intense once MSU entered the Big Ten Conference in 1950. Lastly, for obvious reasons, it's just Michigan vs Michigan, so both schools are super excited about proving who's the superior school in the state.

Since 1953 the winner of the Michigan week game receives a Paul Bunyan trophy, a tribute to Michigan's rich history in lumber producing. It's a 4 foot wood figurine of Paul Bunyan on a 5 foot wood base. Definitely a prized possession by whoever the winner is.
